Comparison between U-glass and ordinary flat glass
U-shaped glass and flat glass are two types of architectural glass, just as steel plate and steel sections are both steel products. Comparing them without considering their functions is like comparing a person’s hands and feet. The shared word “glass” can lead people to assume that their functions are the same, but their different forms serve different purposes.
1: The composition of glass is slightly different, just like the relationship between ordinary steel and special steel.
2: The forming process is different.
3: Different cross-sectional shapes produce different mechanical properties. Concentrated-load tests on samples of equal volume, length, and span can show substantial differences.
4: In buildings, flat glass is commonly used for windows, while U-shaped glass is used for interior and exterior walls and enclosures.
5: U-shaped glass uses a double-layer interlocking installation, providing better thermal and sound insulation than flat glass. Heating costs are 40% lower.
6 Because of its high mechanical strength, U-shaped glass can be installed at heights beyond those practical for ordinary flat glass. The maximum allowable area of flat glass supported on four sides is strictly limited by wind loads. U-shaped glass can therefore save more than 50% of the steel needed for installation.
7: U-shaped glass has physical and optical properties similar to those of flat glass. However, its forming process changes its visual transparency and light-reflection characteristics. The choice therefore depends on the designer’s concept.
U-shaped glass is an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, light-transmitting wall material. It is popular with architectural designers in China and overseas and has been used in many buildings. Welcome to our website. For designers, building materials form a language and a palette. Just as no single color can be called the most beautiful, there is no limit to the possibilities of a designer’s imagination.
