What are the requirements for U-shaped glass installation?
U-shaped glass has high mechanical strength, and wired U-shaped glass can provide safety protection in mid- and high-rise building walls. It resists acids, alkalis, and high humidity and can be used where corrosion resistance is needed. It is easy to assemble and can be installed vertically or on a slope, in single or double rows, as wall or roof glazing. Large-area curtain walls increase daylighting and provide both decorative and construction functions. The following requirements apply to installation:
(1) The end faces and surfaces of U-shaped glass must be free of jagged notches and cracks.
(2) Each individual U-shaped glass member shall be supported on a gasket with uniform elasticity.
(3) Glass must not be in direct rigid contact with adjacent metal parts, concrete, or mortar.
(4) Leave a gap between the upper end of the U-shaped glass and the building elements above it, such as lintels, beams, or roof panels.
(5) Leave an air gap of at least 25 mm between the upper end of the U-shaped glass and the adjacent structure above it to accommodate movement and facilitate installation and replacement.
(6) Fill the longitudinal joints between U-shaped glass panels with an elastic sealant.
(7) Sealing materials, usually two-component polysulfide plastic, silicon copper glue, flexible PVC profiles, etc., are used for sealing between U-shaped glass and fixing parts and U-shaped glass strips.
(8) Round sealing cord between the U-shaped glass and the frame.
(9) Strip gaskets, flexible PVC profiles, bituminous strips, rigid foam plastics, and similar materials are used at expansion and sliding joints between the U-shaped glass and frame.
(10) Expansion bolts for fixing the frame.
